Having had a whole heap of colds over the years kicking off this year with some form of influenze reminded me of the difference between the two.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't swine flu only that it was flu. I know there were moments of delirium. I swear i came up a shot hop from hallicinating on a couple of occasions.
I woke on 7th Jan with some aches.
With the way the weather had been i assumed my muscles were complaining that they weren't used to being put through their paces. Getting the car ot in the weather was a no-no so i was walking. Ok, fair enough. Tho wandering home in the chill of -10C at 0300 didn't make me feel none too good.
I had the 8th off and returned to a day shift on saturday 9th. The ache was no different. maybe slightly worse. I did think about it being viral but it not being a lot worse made me doubt it.
I fell in to bed that evening but rose to respond to a text. Whilst stood writing a reply i had an overwhelming sense of nausea and light-headedness.
I left the alarm to wake me just before 6 but knew that the night's wave of general bleargh was an indication of what had to be done. This was not going to help station. 1 on the bird and 3 of us on station.
I capitulated. Enough was enough.
I continued dosing up with paracetemol.
I hadn't felt this shit in a long time. Yes it compares poorly with the state of the people of Haiti. That was one nasty earthquake that has thrown their caribbean nation in to a state of confusion. I hope the aid they need so badly gets to the right people and quickly.
Anyhow, their atrocious situation didn't make me feel any better.
I thought back then that i'd be back at work by today. Ha! the aching didn't stop for a week. I was left with a terrible malaise and lethargy. That is now easing.
I managed to get out in the car. It was what was needed. Sadly, i had a large crack in my windscreen so that needs to be done in the next day or so. It's a waiting game for now.
